We stopped in for breakfast around 7 a.m. Food was reasonably priced, decor what you'd expect for a mom and pop restaurant in a tourist area. We had an omelette and oatmeal, both of which are difficult to screw up. The side order of thick cut bacon was delicious. Like most places in Keweenaw County, they don't accept AMEX. The real clincher was the service. We were cheerfully greeted (and so were other patrons), coffee came quickly, food came quickly and we were on with our day of exploring the area quickly. Better than average breakfast, lunch, dinner place. Friendly waitstaff always have a pot of coffee in hand and keep your cup full. The food is what you would expect, not high end just a good, hearty meal. I ate there 3 times during my vacation, every meal was good and reasonably priced. I recommend it as an alternative to the 'tourist trap' restaurants.

A fairly standard diner, this place would normally get 3 stars from me, but two things stood out: homemade jam and bread made right on the premises, and fantastic seafood. The trout was some of the most tender and flavorful I've ever had. Both dinner and breakfast were very good here. Breakfast was not as cheap as I might expect at a diner, but the portions were large and filling. The staff was attentive and nice and were willing to chat about where the bread, jam and trout came from, which is why I know the owner makes her own strawberry jam and they bake their own white country bread that's offered on the salad bar.

I won't eat at The Tamarack. Their Asian staff is treated extremely poorly. Some slaves had it better. Gave it 1 star only because Yelp insists on a star.

We rode the sunset tour of the harbor with Bill and Bonnie, owners of the Tamarak who generously brought their whole staff out that night. So, I decided to head here for breakfast the next morning! Everything was great. Friendly service. It has that old school up-north feeling. This was my first time in Copper Harbor & this is a place I'd return to next time I visit!

We had the pleasure to dine here twice during our stay in Copper Harbor. We had breakfast here two days in a row. The absolute best, BEST blueberry pancakes I've ever had anywhere. Light fluffy and perfectly crisp around the edges. The hash browns are also grilled to perfection. The staff and the owner are super and make an out of towner feel like a Yooper.

Just a short walk from where we are staying at the Bella Vista, the Tamarack was recommended for their lunch specials. Today was lake trout or whitefish with slaw and fries for $9.50. I decided to try the lake trout. The fish is locally caught and the serving was very generous and very mild. My wife ordered the whitefish. We both agreed it was some of the best fish we've ever eaten. Our server was very friendly and had our order to us in very little time. We can't wait to go back again and maybe try a local pasty. Supposed to be like a pot pie served with a gravy over the top and a local favorite. Unlike many resturants they are only open for breakfast and lunch from 7-3.

Most of the best reviews for Tamarack are for breakfast, so maybe we should have tried breakfast. As it was, however we stopped for lunch. It was pretty typical of what you would expect from a mom and pop place way up north. The lake trout was pretty good, not great, but still really good. The pastie was one of the best we have had. The patty melt was advertised as "the best in the mid-west", it was mediocre at best. The service was decent and I would have given the place 3 stars because most of the food wasn't bad but the prices were very high, even for a tourist area.

This is a must for breakfast, it's like mom fixing breakfast for you. The service was great and the food was fresh and tasty. They make their own strawberry jam and no words can describe how wonderful it is. I brought home a few jars , made fresh. It was also a great value, so much food for the price, if you are in Copper Harbor, don't miss eating breakfast or lunch here, it's worth it.

Really good breakfast. I had the pancakes and my girl had the hangover hash. Everything was delicious. Good coffee and great service. A nice friendly atmosphere and great food at reasonable prices. Definitely recommend!

I really want to give it 5 stars. I do. The pasty I ordered was the absolute best pasty I've ever had. However, I would rather eat my trail mix than return because of the attitude of the chef. My husband ordered our food to go because we had dogs with us. He paid the server and was putting a portion of the cash back into his wallet before dropping some singles down for a tip. The chef was standing near the register watching him and before he had a chance to leave a tip the chef announced loudly "no more take out orders! No one ever tips on take out orders!". This before my husband had a chance to leave the tip! The server was friendly and the food was tasty but the chef's aggression? "This will not stand, ya know, this aggression will not stand, man."

Food was fine....let me tell you about the service. In my experience, locals are treated with priority. When we arrived, no one said anything to us for 5 minutes, yet walked by us a bunch of times. There was no "be with you in just a minute" or even a smile. Finally we sat down and our order wasn't taken for at least 30 minutes. Again, no acknowledgement! Finally, we flagged someone down....who wasn't our waitress and begged her to take our order. She said "we'll, we are busy", but took our order. You know, I don't care that you are busy, I was a server for 10 years, what I don't like is being ignored and the lack of courtesy of saying that its going to be a few minutes. This is breakfast, not rocket science, put on a smile and pretend you want to be there.,,, I'm sad I gave money to this establishment. We won't be back!!!!!

Had a lovely breakfast on a cold rainy morning here. Scrambled eggs were obviously powdered (standard military fare) and the pancakes were home made goodness. They're getting 4 stars from me for.... toast and jam. Really. THICK, luscious toast and home made strawberry jam that curled my toes up in sweet yumminess. Note: if you have claustrophobia, avoid the bathrooms. There's a very very narrow channel into the bathrooms that feels rather like descending into the netherworlds through a log cabin.

We liked it. It was a bit kitsch inside, but the food was decent enough. I think the flies were what I disliked the most. I was swatting away flies our entire meal and my husband found a fly in his salad-- that he got from the salad bar. Not that it's their fault, but it did suck a bit having to deal with so many of those buggers. The pasties were good and the pizza was good, too! I was actually quite impressed with the pizza. We'd probably try another restaurant if in town again, but we'd definitely eat there again based on food quality. I just hope those flies have been taken care of.

You know you're at a secluded place when they don't have half of what's on the menu in stock. That being said, I really came here for one thing. The pasties! I usually make my own, so it had a high standard to live up to. I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised at how good it was. The crust on it wasn't too thick and I'm curious to know how they made it thinner. Some of the food was frozen and not freshly prepared as the server eluded to. That is a pretty minor point for some food. The server was a little too busy here and that showed through the attentiveness of our table. The wait for the food was okay. Not exactly fast and a little too slow when you have children. All in all, I would come here again to explore their menu more fully when they have more of it in stock.

Stopped here for breakfast on a recent trip to Copper Harbor. Good diner fare, but the multigrain toast and homemade strawberry jam were especially delicious. Service was friendly and warm. A definite thumbs up!

Owners wife is a liar, and mean! Had breakfast there yesterday, went back today, sat down, she threw the lunch menu at us and said "it's lunch!" I said "menu says breakfast till 1130" and I showed her it was 1114. I then showed her on the lunch menu, "served from 1130 am..." "Well someone must have screwed that up! If you don't want lunch, you should go to the Pines" This isn't the first time we've seen her less than pleasant side. But it was our last. Too bad food was ok yesterday, and the non owner waitress was nice.

We had breakfast recently when in town over the July 4th weekend. The food was excellent and since it was the Monday after the 4th most of the weekend crowd had cleared out so there were only a few folks in there that morning. Can't complain about one thing...Fantastic food and service for us. We'd definitely stop back the next time in the area.

We tried stopping here for breakfast - it was 11:02 and when we walked in, we were yelled at by a female server and told that they were closed from 11-11:30am to switch over for lunch and told to leave and come back later. The sign said "open" and there was nothing on the door describing their limited hours. We went back 2 days later and my boyfriend and I were meeting my friend, her husband and their 2 children. When we asked about seating for 6, the same woman said that we'd have to wait for a large enough table because they didn't push tables together to accommodate larger parties. There were only 2 areas that would seat 6... even though there were probably 6+ empty 4-top tables. I can't comment on the food, but the service was terrible. We waited for our friends and went down to the Pines for a fantastic breakfast and more than very pleasant and accommodating wait staff.

The owner threw our tip back in our face as we were leaving, then he flipped us off as we were driving away. I would not go here unless you are planning on leaving a tip bigger than your you check.

What is this place? Very limited menu, not the friendliest staff, and a bit of a dingy place. Highly overpriced...pasty for $8.50? How? If you want to save money and just share a meal, they charge you $3.00 to do so. What makes them think that is acceptable? We left this place before putting and order in.
